OMEGA × Swatch Bioceramic MoonSwatch – Mission to Mars (SO33R100)

The Mission to Mars is the most collectible of the original eleven, and the one with the deepest story. A fiery red Bioceramic case is paired with a bright white dial, white bezel and white VELCRO strap — red ceramic is rare on any watch, which alone makes it stand out.

The Alaska Project connection

This is the only MoonSwatch with spacecraft-shaped subdial hands. The two red hands on the hour and minute counters at 10 and 2 o'clock are shaped differently from the subdial hands on every other model in the collection, and they carry lume where the others don't.

They reference OMEGA's Alaska Project, a set of prototypes developed for NASA in 1969–70 to survive extreme temperature swings in space. Those watches had a white dial, a white VELCRO strap, the same rocket-shaped counter hands, and a huge removable red anodised aluminium outer shield for thermal protection. The Alaska Project never flew and never went into series production, which is exactly why originals are so sought after. The red and white of Mission to Mars is a direct nod to it.

Strap options

The 42 mm case shape is close enough to the original Speedmaster that aftermarket Speedmaster rubber straps fit the MoonSwatch, and the 20 mm lug width opens up the rest of the market.

What it is and isn't

The MoonSwatch is a quartz chronograph in a Bioceramic case — an accessible reinterpretation of the Speedmaster, not a mechanical Moonwatch. The collection launched in March 2022 and sold out globally.
